Incoming Projects...
While a lot of my work is typically copywriting and marketing, I enjoy pursuing creative projects on the side. Here are some of the projects I've been working on lately that I'm really excited to share once they get further along!
A Tall Glass of Deception
This story takes place in 1920s Minnesota, with a serial killer on the loose! Lana is a receptionist at the local police department and is roped into spying on the suspicious politician, Francis J. Tarrant, who has a mysterious past. As Lana digs further into the truth, creating more and more lies, she becomes more uncertain about the potential danger she's placing herself in, while ultimately falling in love with her suspect at the same time.
Like Father, Like Son
Bailey is just your average high schooler, except for the fact that his father is a serial killer. Only a few months ago, Bailey's existence was turned upside down with the realization that his father is responsible for the murders of over ten girls. Now with his father behind bars, Bailey is left to put the pieces back together of a person he thought he knew. When he starts to recognize his father's uglier qualities within himself, he realizes that in order to put life back together again, he'll have to face his demons.
Finished Projects...
The Night Shift
This was a short story I wrote in my advanced fiction class, talking about a pair closing up a pizza shop late at night. This advanced fiction writing class was centered on the practice of revision and I revised this story four times throughout the semester, really challenging the way I wrote it before and trying to take risks to make it a stronger story. I really enjoyed the chance to consider different avenues that the story could've gone down, and it taught me that revision can be a lot bigger than I ever thought.
Down below, you can find my original draft, as well as the following four revisions that tried to instill the creepiness and fear I wanted to evoke in the story. Revision 1 involved changing the perspective from first person to third person, and Revision 2 was changing from first person to second. For Revision 3, I completely redid as another form, so instead of a story, I made it a recipe for telling a scary story. Revision 4 let me take all that I had learned throughout the earlier revisions to create one last retelling.
